ABOUT
A once in a decade co-designed, multi-disciplinary and collaborative study on Australian seafood
WHAT WE DO
We anticipate this work will be used as a single source of truth that can inform government priorities, activities and decisions around the use of the ocean estate, while reducing the duplication and burden on contributors.
This is a time-critical opportunity and a ‘once in a decade’ co-designed, multi-disciplinary and collaborative study on Australian seafood. This collaborative approach is fundamental to ensure this study achieves its ambitious suite of outputs while representing the industry members’ data, experiences and insights with respect and integrity.
The study is founded on an enduring data collation and management platform, an inclusive stakeholder engagement schedule of events and activities and a strong outreach program that will be undertaken by a series of expert commissions and overseen and supported by a strong and inclusive governance framework.
SCROLL
Seafood Industry Australia (SIA) is the national peak-body representing the Australian seafood industry as a whole. With members from the wildcatch, aquaculture and post-harvest sectors of the Australian seafood industry, we are the voice of Australian seafood.
SIA provides consumers, Government and other stakeholders with confident and united representation. Our unity indicates that we love what we do, we stand by our products and that those products are the best in the world. SIA provides services identified through a process involving member input to fill a critical gap that currently exists, to have more influence on Government decisions, to act as a national industry voice, to be a marketing and communications hub, and to remove obstacles to growth standing in the way of the Australian seafood industry.
Our vision is for the Australian seafood industry to be United, Effective and Respected.
The Blue Economy CRC was established to undertake industry focussed research and training to support the growth of the Blue Economy with a focus on two new, emerging, and transitioning ocean industries for Australia: offshore aquaculture and renewable energy production.
Established in 2019, Blue Economy CRC is an independent not-for-profit company limited by guarantee and is a Cooperative Research Centre under the Australian Government’s CRC Program. With a 10-year life, the Blue Economy CRC brings together 43 industry, government, and research partners from ten countries with expertise in aquaculture, marine renewable energy, maritime engineering, environmental assessments and policy and regulation.
The Fisheries Research and Development Corporation (FRDC) takes a leading role in planning and investing in fisheries research, development and extension (RD&E) to support the ongoing sustainability of our aquatic sectors and aquatic ecosystems.
The Corporation is a co-funded partnership between the Australian Government and fisheries and aquaculture. It is a statutory corporation under the Primary Industries Research and Development Act 1989 (the PIRD Act) and is responsible to the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
On behalf of the Australian Government, we have a significant responsibility to ensure research is undertaken to assist in the management of fisheries and aquaculture resources for their ongoing sustainability. This means a significant proportion of funding is directed to research that has a benefit for the four sectors of the fishing industry: Indigenous, commercial and recreational fishing and aquaculture while also delivering a public good benefit to the Australian community.
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) vision is a more sustainable and prosperous Australia through biosecurity, agricultural production and trade.
DAFF maintain and create agricultural export opportunities, to provide gains for Australian agriculture, fishing and forestry. We manage biosecurity risks to Australia to protect our multi-billion-dollar industries and our way of life. They engage with international counterparts to reinforce Australia’s role in shaping how the global agriculture and fibre sector addresses food security, productivity, trade, sustainability and the impacts of climate change.
The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) leads Australia’s response to climate change and sustainable energy use, and protect our environment, heritage and water. We protect Australia’s natural environment and heritage sites.
DCCEEW helps Australia respond to climate change and carefully manage our water and energy resources. The new department has been established to deliver on the Government’s climate change and energy agenda and protect Australia’s environment and water resources.
