The Futures of Seafood study will deliver an industry informed program of work to support a secure, resilient and thriving Australian seafood community. It will reinforce the seafood stakeholders’ commitment to fair and equitable access, industry-led research and innovation, and trusted stewardship of our coasts and oceans. Futures will foster an understanding of the seafood industry, ensuring it is deeply valued by all.

The study is founded on an enduring data collation and management platform, an inclusive stakeholder engagement schedule of events and activities and a strong outreach program that will be undertaken by a series of expert commissions and overseen and supported by a strong and inclusive governance framework.

STATE OF PLAY: RECREATIONAL

Providing a contemporary description on the state of play of Australia’s recreational seafood system, the supply chain, markets and its reach into communities. Identify trends, insights, forecasts and cumulative impacts that are impacting Australia’s recreational seafood industry.

OCEAN ESTATE

Describing and mapping other ocean uses (new, emerging and transitioning), ad detailing assumptions about current growth plans / policies / rights completed / taken up, looking towards 2040.

IMPACT SCENARIOS

Developing scenario modelling tools to model the cumulative trends and produce associated impact reporting against productivity and sustainability (social, economic, environmental and governance) metrics.

ROADMAP

Making recommendations and mapping contemporary frameworks to support transitions to future states and de-risking industry/sectors, and developing industry-specific assets that improve knowledge and ongoing participation in the ocean estate policy conversation.
